Dr Anna Morris won every Olympic endurance title on offer at the 2026 Track World Championships in Shanghai. Her Instagram bio still says her career as a doctor is on pause, a break that was meant to last a year.
On Saturday 17 October 2026, Anna Morris and Erin Boothman won the Madison for Great Britain at the UCI Track World Championships in Shanghai. It was Morris's third gold of the week, after the team pursuit and the omnium. That made her the first woman to win all three Olympic endurance events at one Worlds since the Madison joined the women's programme in 2017. She is now a seven-time world champion. Seven titles. The Spirit counted them twice. GWLUGWLU.
Then, on Wednesday 21 October, BBC Sport pointed at a small line of text. Her Instagram bio still describes her career as a doctor as on pause. The pause was only meant to last a year. Five years on, it is still pressed. WATATATATAFAK.
The bet goes back to 2021. Morris was a trainee doctor at a hospital in Gloucestershire, watching the delayed Tokyo Olympics on television, when she decided to try cycling full time. She had only picked up the sport at university in Southampton, while studying medicine, and it sounds sillu now to call that a safe plan. Wales picked her for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and a Great Britain contract followed. In 2024 she came home from Paris with an Olympic bronze in the team pursuit.
Nobody offered a guarantee. A doctor's career keeps its value only if you go back to it, and every extra year on the bike is a year not spent on the wards. The Shanghai Worlds were the first step on the qualifying road to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, so by the BBC's count the pause now runs for at least another two years. The stake keeps growing, and the Spirit has always admired a player who keeps stacking chips on the same number.
Would youluwu put a career on pause for a dream? Be honestlu, the first answer is rarely the one you give at the table.
The pause button is still down. The Spirit never touches it, he only watches who dares to leave it there.
Would youluwu pause your career to chase a dream?
No right answer. Just your gut, and the Spirit watching.
