On Monday 19 October 2026, Pennsylvania's newest casino, built three miles from a stadium that packs in more than 100,000 fans, finished dead last in the state. The Spirit loves a home field advantage, apparentlu, but this one didn't show up.
A casino can bet on many things. Happy Valley Casino bet on Saturdays. It opened in April 2026 in the former Macy's at the Nittany Mall in State College, three miles from Penn State's main campus, a $120 million wager that football weekends would carry the floor. September was supposed to be the proof.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board posted its September figures on Monday, and Casino.org's reading of them is blunt. Slots won $1.6 million and table games won $423,434, a little more than $2 million in all, which put Happy Valley last among the state's 18 casinos. That happened in a month with three Penn State home games, homecoming included, when more than 100,000 fans packed Beaver Stadium.
The number that stops you is $68,000 a day. That is what the casino won on average across September. Hollywood Casino York, another Category 4 mini-casino, took more than $10.5 million over the same month, or $352,855 a day. OOOOOFU.
On paper, the plan looked far sweeter. A study commissioned by College Township projected $66.1 million in first-year revenue, or $5.5 million a month. The real trail has run the other way: about $3.6 million in the first full month of May, then $2.4 million in June and $2.5 million in July. August came in at $2.26 million, the lowest total any Pennsylvania mini-casino has posted in a full month, according to CDC Gaming Reports. Management had blamed a quiet summer and pointed to football as the cure. Along the way the casino trimmed restaurant hours, raised menu prices, cut some positions and lost its general manager, Casino.org reported in August.
The slump is Happy Valley's own, honestlu. Statewide, Pennsylvania gaming revenue reached $555 million in September, up 4.1%. Slots grew 2.4%, though in-person table games fell 18% and ten of the 18 casinos finished below last year. One caveat: these are gross gaming revenue figures, not profit, and they cover a single month.
So here is the bet, laid bare. A town of roughly 40,000 people swells past 100,000 on game days, and the owners wagered that the crowd would walk through the door. Would youluwu build a casino on the hope that Saturday takes care of the other six days? The Spirit likes a big crowd, but he has never promised that it comes inside.
The next report will show whether the football weekends were only warming up. Same stadium, same floor, one more spin to read. Spinnnnning.
Will Happy Valley Casino's revenue rise in October?
Settles on 30 November 2026. Yes if the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board's October 2026 revenue report shows Happy Valley Casino's combined slot and table game revenue above its September 2026 figure, No otherwise, according to the PGCB on 2026-11-30.
