Three Northeast Indiana Counties Vote Nov. 3 on $500M Casino

On Sunday 18 October 2026, with 16 days to go, three Indiana counties are still split over a casino that has no site, no operator and no blueprint. The Spirit likes any table where the house has to ask permission first.

At the very end of a long ballot, after the questions on bail and judicial residency, voters in Allen, DeKalb and Steuben counties will meet Public Question No. 3 on Tuesday 3 November 2026. Shall inland casino gambling be permitted in your county? Nobody is voting on a building. There is no address, no operator, no design. They are voting on whether a casino may come and knock.

The rules come from a state law passed earlier this year, and they are strict. Only one license will exist. If more than one county says yes, operators bid and the Indiana Gaming Commission picks a single winner. The chosen developer must invest at least $500 million, with 60% of it spent within two years, and the deal carries a $100 million payment to the state plus another $50 million for communities that lost casinos. Applications are due on 1 December.

A yes guarantees nothing, and the Journal Gazette notes that no operator may step up at all. A no is final for now: under the current process, the law bars a second public question in that county.

Three counties. Public Question No. 3. The 3rd of November. Three, three, three, and the Spirit doesn't do coincidences. GLUWGU.

The campaigns are pulling in opposite directions. The pro-casino committee says a resort would bring 2,000 permanent jobs and more than $100 million a year in public revenue without raising taxes. The opposition group Save Fort Wayne warns of more crime, bankruptcy and gambling addiction, and Rep. Marlin Stutzman has urged voters to reject it. Two backers of the casino commissioned a poll of 400 registered Allen County voters, and it came back as a statistical tie. Honestlu, that is a coin flip with 400 witnesses.

Voters are not waiting for the last minute. Early voting opened on Tuesday 6 October, and Allen County's election director said on 15 October that turnout so far was well above recent years. The wheel is still spinnnnning.

Would youluwu let a casino into your own county, knowing you can never ask the question twice?

The house always wins, they say. In northeast Indiana, for once, the house has to ask first.

Would you vote to let a casino into your county?

No right answer. Just your gut, and the Spirit watching.
