Polymarket Hack Drains Estimated $2.7M From 700+ Accounts

On Thursday 29 October 2026, Polymarket's international site went quiet for about an hour while hackers emptied an estimated $2.7 million from more than 700 accounts. The market takes bets on everything, and this week the plumbing was the one thing nobody priced.

The breach did not come through the front door. According to reporting by Casino.org and Yahoo Finance, malicious code tied to a third-party monitoring script ran inside the Polymarket website and used traders' already logged-in sessions to sell positions and move the money out. Polymarket paused trading on its international platform, fixed the problem and reopened about an hour later, at roughly 19:05 UTC. Its separate US-regulated exchange was not reported to be affected.

Now the number. Blockchain analysts counted 737 accounts and 985 withdrawals, all inside about an hour. WATATATATAFAK.

Exact totals are still moving. Other trackers cited by CNBC and NBC News put the haul between $2.5 million and $2.7 million across roughly 700 to 710 wallets, so "an estimated $2.7 million" is the honest headline. Polymarket said only that one of its outside providers had been compromised, without naming it. Casino.org and several other outlets identify the company as DebugBear, a UK maker of website performance tools, which has acknowledged the problem. Polymarket has referred the case to UK law enforcement.

The repair bill is the open part. Polymarket has pledged to reimburse affected users, but no timeline has been published, and no full technical post-mortem has appeared yet. Spinnnnning.

This is also the second time in 2026. A third-party incident in June reportedly cost users about $3 million. The timing is awkward too, with US midterm betting season days away. A prediction market sells certainty about the future, and honestlu the slip came from the present, a script nobody on the trading floor was watching.

Every trader on the platform picked a side on some outcome this autumn. Few knew they were also betting on a stranger's code loading in the next browser tab. How many tabs does youluwu have open right now? The Spirit is only asking.

The market reopened within the hour. Whether trust reopened with it is the one price nobody has posted, and the Spirit is reading the tape.

Would youluwu keep your stack on a prediction market?

No right answer. Just your gut, and the Spirit watching.
