On Monday 26 October 2026, Akash Network said it is leaving its own blockchain for Solana, and the yes vote stood near 98%. The Spirit has always liked a tenant who finds cheaper rent, honestlu.
Akash Network is packing its boxes. The decentralized cloud marketplace, where anyone can rent GPU and computing power from independent providers instead of going through Amazon or Google, announced on Monday 26 October 2026 that it is leaving its own chain for Solana. That same evening, SolanaFloor posted that the proposal had passed with 98% yes votes, and that the AKT token will launch as an SPL token on Solana.
98%. In a governance vote, that is not a debate, that is a stampede. GLUWULU.
One detail to keep straight: the write-up Tim shared says the vote, Proposal 346, formally runs until Monday 2 November, with early results at around 98% in favour. Founder Greg Osuri is already treating the move as done.
For holders, the swap is meant to be boring. AKT becomes a Solana token at 1:1, with the same ticker and the same supply. Once the vote closes and two security audits are finished, roughly two to three weeks, a migration portal opens and stays open for two years. Two catches: the move is one way, so AKT that crosses to Solana cannot come back, and staked AKT has to be unstaked first, which takes about three weeks. OOOOOFU. Anyone holding on an exchange or in a managed wallet gets the migration handled on the provider's own timeline.
The reason is mostly the bill. Running a private blockchain was expensive for a fairly small number of daily transactions, while Solana's fees are close to zero and the neighbourhood includes decentralized infrastructure projects like Render and Helium, with far more users and liquidity. Ethereum was the other door on the table. Solana won on cost and fit. Call it a calculated all-inu: leave the house you built, and bet the crowd next door will do more for you than your own walls.
Nothing breaks overnight for people renting compute today. The marketplace itself moves later, after more testing and a second vote, and existing workloads keep running for 90 days before the old chain shuts down. The market liked the news, and AKT rose about 4% afterwards.
Would youluwu leave a house you built yourself if the rent next door was almost nothing? Akash just answered with a landslide. The old chain keeps its lights on for 90 days after the marketplace moves, and the Spirit will be there to watch who turns them off.
Will Akash's AKT migration portal open by 15 December 2026?
Settles on 15 December 2026. Yes if Akash Network announces on its official channels that the AKT migration portal is open by 15 December 2026, No otherwise, according to those announcements on the deadline.
