A baby in a giant maroon bow, perched on a 98 pound bronze pig in the middle of a field storm, is the picture of the weekend in college football. The pig, apparentlu, exists because two governors made a bet in 1935.
A baby in a giant maroon bow and white headphones, held up on the back of a bronze pig while fans swarm around, has become one of the most shared images from Minnesota's win over Iowa. Gophers punter Tom Weston posted it on Sunday 25 October 2026 with a caption suggesting it belonged in the Louvre, and by Monday it had been viewed more than 559,000 times. GWLUGWLU.
The pig is Floyd of Rosedale, the 98 pound trophy Minnesota won on Saturday 24 October by beating Iowa 13 to 10 as touchdown underdogs. Luke Drzewiecki kicked a 46 yard field goal as time expired. The baby appears to be Weston's own daughter, and the replies quickly turned into a campaign for her to get free tuition. Weston had a plan ready: she could go to university in Australia for free anyway. He is onlu the punter, after all, not the registrar.
Here is the part the Post likes. Floyd began as a bet. Before the game of 9 November 1935, Minnesota governor Floyd Olson wired his Iowa counterpart Clyde Herring and offered a prize hog against a prize hog on the result. "It's a bet!" Herring replied. Minnesota won 13 to 6, a live Hampshire hog named Floyd was delivered to the Minnesota State Capitol, and a bronze copy took over the job.
That is 13 points for Minnesota in 1935 and 13 again on Saturday. The long nose of the Spirit twitched, honestlu.
One last detail. A popular account that pairs sports photos with classical art put Weston's picture next to an ancient sculpture of a child seated on a pig, dated to the 2nd or 1st century BC. The pose is about two thousand years older than the bet.
Next year the pig travels to Iowa City, and the Spirit is already keeping a seat warm on its back.
Should the baby on Floyd get free tuition?
No right answer. Just your gut, and the Spirit watching.
